The short version
Rootine is a local-first app. Everything you add (plants, care logs, photos, notes) is stored exclusively on your device. There are no user accounts, no cloud sync, and no advertising.
Data stored on your device
The following is stored locally in the app's private database and is never transmitted:
- Plant names, species, photos, and room assignments
- Watering and fertilising schedules and history
- Care notes and reminders
- App preferences (theme, language, notification settings)
This data is accessible only to Rootine. It is deleted when you uninstall the app.
Crash reporting
To help fix bugs and improve stability, Rootine uses Bugsink for crash reporting. If the app crashes or encounters an unexpected error, a report is sent automatically. This report may include:
- Device model and Android version
- App version
- A stack trace describing where the error occurred
- Breadcrumbs, a log of recent in-app actions leading up to the crash
Crash reports do not include your plant data, photos, names, or any information you have entered into the app.
Our Bugsink instance is self-hosted on a server located in the EU : crash data never leaves the European Union and is never shared with third parties.
Data retention
Crash reports are retained for up to 90 days, after which they are automatically deleted.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar regulations, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of any personal data we hold. Given that crash reports contain no identifying information, there is effectively no personal data linked to you in our systems.
If you have any concerns, please contact us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days.
